A Bid to Save the Earth

Green is a very iconic color. It’s the color of grass, which covers about 20% of the Earth’s surface.  The most common adage is that the grass is always greener on the other side. Maybe that’s also why green is the color of envy. And while history buffs will tell you that U.S. currency was printed green to foil counterfeiters, everyone else will tell you it’s the color of money.

This Earth Day 2010 marks the holiday’s 40th anniversary, and the color green will certainly play an iconic role. Grab your greenbacks and get ready to turn green with envy because for most of us, the grass will be greener on the other side of Rockefeller Center. Another icon, Christie’s, will launch its inaugural Green Auction: A Bid to Save the Earth.

Christie’s has joined with NBC Universal and four leading environmental organizations to form a unique partnership, to raise awareness and funds for the protection of our planet, culminating with the inaugural Christies’ Green Auction on April 22, the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. The carbon neutral auction will have live and online components, featuring world-renowned works of art, exotic travel packages and unique celebrity experiences.

This star-studded event includes the likes of Kevin Bacon, Alec Baldwin, Mary Steenburgen and Ted Danson, Cameron Diaz, Harrison Ford, Ryan GoslingAdrian Grenier, Natalie Portman and oh so many more interesting folks.

Some of the exciting prizes to bid on include:
